Latest updates from SMK

In the latest Tell Me More podcast episode, Dariana, Head of International Admission at SMK College of Applied Sciences, sits down with Toprak, a first-year Programming and Multimedia student from Turkey, to explore his journey as an international student in Lithuania.

Toprak shares that his passion for technology and creativity naturally led him to choose the Programming and Multimedia program. He enjoys the challenge of problem-solving and sees programming as a field full of opportunities — from game development to working in innovative IT companies. “Every day I learn something new, and my ideas about the future keep changing,” he explains.

Toprak came to Lithuania with limited programming and math knowledge but quickly adapted thanks to SMK’s supportive learning environment. “You can start from zero — I did, and I’m managing well,” he says, encouraging others not to be intimidated by IT studies.

He highlights the friendly atmosphere at SMK, where teachers are approachable and the international student community is active and welcoming. He especially appreciates the opportunities provided by Erasmus and ISN, which bring students of various cultures together.

Looking to the future, Toprak is excited about gaining more experience through Erasmus exchanges and plans to stay in Lithuania long-term. For him, the best part of this journey is the independence — living alone, navigating a new culture, and building a future in a fast-growing field.
